Boas are constrictors that come in a wide variety of types, sizes, and colors. Boa varieties include tree, ground, water, and burrowing species. Boas range in lengths between 2ft, like the Kenyan Sand Boa, and up to 30ft, such as the Anaconda. The Anaconda is also the heaviest of all species. On average most Boa species grow between 8ft to 10ft, with some reaching up to 13ft. The life span of a Boa ranges between 10-30 years typically, but some boas can live for up to 80 years, depending on species. Unlike most reptiles, Boas don't lay eggs but give live birth to 8-50 young, most "red-tails" will give birth from about 8-25 live babies, generally depending on size. Boas feed mostly on rodents and birds anywhere from once a week to once a month. The extremely large species are known to eat larger prey items. Boas are often times called "New World" snakes because they are mainly found in North and South America. They are known as the gentlest of the large snake species and are popular as pets because of their easy going attitude.
